TRAINING

Investing in our people

Positions in the ground and cargo handling industry are highly regulated due to the significant security and safety risks and responsibilities associated with each role.

At WFS we are committed to meeting or exceeding international and national Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) regulations, customer standards and recommended practices. Training is a core part of our business ethos, driven by our WFS Academy, established 10 years ago and now one of IATA’s top 5 accredited training schools in the world.

Our training programs ensure our employees are trained for their current role and are ready for the right opportunities in the future.

  • Organisation and People Reviews (OPR) and ongoing training
  • Continuous operational training for safe and secure handling (WFS Academy)
  • Regular reviews to support and develop our people
  • Management and soft skill training programs to develop our managers at all levels and create our future leaders
  • IATA CEIV Pharmaceutical handling training programs

Professional Training for other Professionals

WFS also offers expertise not only to WFS employees, but also to other companies in the air transport and logistics industry.

This is ideal for companies directly or indirectly linked to the air transport industry, as well as individuals, across all our countries of operation. Each year close to 20,000 individuals are trained by a team of over 70 trainers. There are close to 100 courses to choose from across a wide range of areas including safety, security, operations, ethics & compliance, leadership, soft skills, as well as technical courses such as dangerous goods awareness.

Training formats

WFS offers three different formats for its training courses:

  • Physical classroom sessions
  • Live online sessions
  • E-learning courses, or computer-based training (CBT)

Continuous improvement

Each year we conduct a comprehensive review of our training curriculum to identify courses that need to be updated to meet regulatory changes or to integrate any recommended programme quality improvements to better enhance the transfer of knowledge.

The training team has also designed and converted all general security awareness training programmes for the ground handling division to computer-based training (CBT). In North America, 85% of courses are now available online, either through e-learning or live remote sessions.
