Air Europa Cargo, the air cargo business unit of Air Europa, has renewed its agreement with Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a SATS company, forhandling management services for its operations in Madrid and Barcelona for a further five years.
WFS was awarded its first contract with Air Europa Cargo in Madrid in 2018 and extended its partnership with the airline to Barcelona in January 2021. The continued collaboration will allow Air Europa to consolidate its strong cargo position for customers at both airports.
In Madrid, WFS handles cargo carried onboard up to 350 Air Europa flights a week serving other Spanish cities and main European destinations as well as daily flights to the United States and South America. This is in addition to handling over 25 flights a week ex Barcelona for Air Europa Cargo, which operates a fleet of Boeing 737 and B787 aircraft.
Jordi Piqué, General Manager Air Europa Cargo says its alliance with WFS will help to drive its growth strategy.
“The relationship with WFS means having the right specialised partner as it shares with the company both its vision for the future, based on the implementation of the latest technology, and the continuous improvement of processes. The relationship between Air Europa Cargo and WFS has been based on the ongoing pursuit of operational efficiency and the provision of the highest levels of service quality and safety,” Jordi Piqué stated. “The new agreement will allow this approach to continue through the strengthening and continuous improvement of cargo services across the airline’s network, characterised by the diversity of routes not only on the European continent but also strategic destinations throughout the Americas.”
Humberto Castro, Managing Director of WFS in Spain & Italy, said: “We are proud to be a strategic partner of Air Europa Cargo and look forward to supporting more growth for the airline’s cargo business in Madrid and Barcelona over the next five years. In WFS, the airline knows it has a strong partner which is continuing to invest in modern facilities and continuously reviewing our processes to optimise the efficiency and visibility of the cargo we handle. We remain committed to innovation, using new technologies, and sustainability improvements to underpin the quality of service we deliver at both airports.”
WFS operates five cargo warehouse facilities in Madrid covering 17,000m², handling over 500,000 tonnes of cargo a year for more than 30 airline customers. The Spanish Airport Authority AENA has also recently awarded WFS a plot to build its sixth cargo facility at the airport, due to open in 2028. Additionally, in Barcelona, WFS serves over 20 airlines and handles more than 140,000 tonnes a year at its 12,000m² facility.
